On January 1st, 2016, the administrating organization of the Family Planning Clinic located at Room One, Family Planning of North Central Washington, has decided to close the clinic's doors. Although many current clients (and teens) will be able to access reproductive health care from their primary provider, research and years of experience tell us that some of our neighbors will be vulnerable to slipping through the cracks. Our county has one of the highest rates of teen pregnancy in the state, we have to continue strategically and thoroughly supporting the continuum of family planning services. To that end, Room One will approach this change as a transition, rather than a closure.
In the short term, we will build the capacity of local health clinics to effectively meet the reproductive health needs of teens and vulnerable adults. This means helping clinics deliver services as confidentially as possible, talk with clients about birth control, and provide affordable family planning services. We will also continue to serve as advocates, educators, and links for teens and other community members – we can distribute plan B, connect community members with individual providers, employ the best evidence-based sexuality education in our schools, and engage in effective partnership work.
Although the Twisp site will close, Family Planning of North Central Washington’s Okanogan clinic will remain open and will still offer a full sliding scale for folks who need it.
