Room One is is privileged to help members of the Methow Valley community connect to affordable healthcare choices.
Enrolling rural communities like ours in health care coverage necessarily involves partnering with local organizations – those who know the community best. Like many of our neighbors, Room One was concerned that rural Okanogan County would be one of the last communities to benefit from comprehensive health care reform. We knew that to connect our community with this vital health opportunity, we needed to build effective partnerships and participate in critical conversations about health care changes. Six months ago, an extraordinary opportunity found Room One. A member of the Enroll America team saw an article about Room One in one of our local papers and emailed us to learn more about our service model. She wanted to learn how we were successful in reaching people in this area and what lessons we’d learned through years of health service outreach. She’s provided Room One with information about the Washington Health Plan Finder (Washington’s Health Benefit Exchange) and connected us with people working on this in the state. Thanks to opportunities created by our ally at Enroll America, two Room One staff members now serve as in-person assisters for the Health Benefit Exchange. Although they cannot provide advice, these staff members can help individuals through the application process, gather more information about health care options, and identify plans that meet their health care needs. Since October 1st, the phone has not stopped ringing at Room One.
