Local pianist Michael Brady will give three performances to benefit Room One at the Merc Playhouse in Twisp. The series began last Saturday, the next performance will be at 7PM on October 8th and a 2PM matinee on December 31st (New Year’s Eve).
This new solo presentation, “A ‘Recital-Lecture,’ the Subject Being Chopin” will feature performance of most of Chopin’s last compositions through readings, recitations and “wry commentary” by Mr. Brady.
More on the performance from Michael: [I] will explore how [the compositions’] irresistible beauty, pathos, and the sweep of their raw emotional power might reflect something of his life when he wrote them, as his strange and weirdly dysfunctional relationship with the notorious writer Madame George Sand began disintegrating into a hell that would leave Chopin behind with little but despair, disease, and a deathless legacy of some of the most beautiful music ever written.
General admission for both October performances is $15 and New Year’s Eve admission is by donation. Keyboard-view seats can be reserved for $25 in advance by calling 996-5002. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to experience classical arts in the Methow in support of our mighty Valley community!
