(September News) In September the Room One staff attended conferences put on by two leading social change organizations: Western States Center and Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The themes were similar: we have power when we come together and work toward the common goals that create a future where ALL people can truly thrive. This is not a new idea for our rural community, but our entire staff was energized to talk with leaders around the region and country who are working for transformative change. Our staff also made connections with some key organizations as they work toward the kinds of policy changes that will greatly impact social, racial, and economic equity in our state. If you are interested, check out a few examples of policy agendas being put forward in our area: Washington Poverty Action Network and Washington Budget and Policy Center.
Questions I regularly ask myself when I'm outraged about injustice: 1. What resources exist so I can better educate myself? 2. Who's already doing work around this injustice? 3. Do I have the capacity to offer concrete support & help to them? 4. How can I be constructive?
