(Feb Newsletter) Every person’s experience of becoming a mother is unique, yet we know the unexpected challenges, emotions and questions that arise with this new chapter affect everyone. Serving nine moms and their beautiful babies, Room One's Family Advocate facilitated another 12 week Mothering Group series this winter. Topics ranged from sleep and feeding baby to the balance of family and work. Derived from the research-based PEPS model, new moms are connected to solid parenting resources and encouraged to learn from each other, share experiences, and ask frank questions.
Here are a few reflections from our Mothering Group this winter:
“This was an amazing opportunity to build a community of support.
“A great resource that moms are lucky to take part in, so thank you for creating community for us. We'll have it for a lifetime.
“Please, please, please keep this program going. Our valley needs it.
“Check-ins feel sooo good! Needed! Often no other time for this in life.”
Designed in collaboration with local families, we also launched a new Parenting Support Group this month with our partners at Little Star School. Parents will cook and eat a meal together and go home with a meal for their family to eat later in the week (thank you Kathy Borgersen, Room One board member and co-owner ofSunflower Catering for her expert guidance on cuisine and the use of her beautiful kitchen on the TwispWorks campus!). At each gathering, families learn a bit about cooking, discuss the joys and challenges of parenthood, and explore parenting skills over a shared meal.
